If I were an It Girl : Brochu Walker

If I were an It Girl I would lounge around the house in Brochu Walker everyday and when summer came I would live in it all the time. So okay, I'd never heard of Brochu Walker till I styled this shoot at Rue La La earlier this week, but now I can only hope I can afford a piece (or two?) when the boutique opens this weekend.  The photographer thought it was insane asylum clothing, but the model and I were both ready to check ourselves in! The fabrics are luxurious, the color pallette is a perfect nuetral and the cuts are simple, yet modern - basics with a twist. Top of my wish list are the pants above.  They have this great gathered drop waist in the front, are TOTALLY sheer and then have the sweatpant cuff on the bottom! Perfect for wearing under them is an awesome lace cami boy cut brief ONESIE! I handed it to the model to wear with the pants and a v-neck sweater as a layering piece not even knowing it! It's brillant! Who couldn't use one - it's perfect under skirts for that feeling of safety - it gets windy even in the summer! and of course a no brainer with these pants...

Let there be Light(s)

 

Things have been very serendipitous for me this week. Today I stopped in a thrift store to browse housewares and vintage books and found a National Geographic with a cover story about an African tribe I'm doing a presentation on Thursday for a "Diversity" day at my children's school! Saturday my husband and I were sans children (a rareity!) so we went antiquing at a local market where we spotted these beauties.  We left without them and went to where there HAD been another market.  Unfortunately, It no longer existed.  I googled antiques for our location and came up with a little shop not to far way which specializes in Mid-Century Modern - my latest obsession! Next door was a lighting shop owned by a lovely gentleman who repairs lights but whose passion is steampunk lighting (www.steampunklighting.com).  We loved his lights, but most I'm afraid are out of our price range, however it immediately made us realize we needed to rush back to the market and by these for they were a steal! My husband has to wire them and we're still figuring out the mounting, but we live in a loft with high ceilings so these are going to look amazing in our living area!

 

Spaces & Places : Waldhaus

I saw this house over on Plaza Interiör and have spent a couple of hours tracking down it's original source! So you may have seen this before on Designspiration(sk), La maison d' Anna G., Design Shimmer, stylepark and last but not least on the architects site studio st, but I'm so enamoured I had to post it as well. We have had no winter where I live to speak of and honestly I am not complaining, but if I lived in this house I could not wish for anything less than a winter wonderland.

Fridays Child

It's been a busy crazy week.  The kids are on school vacation and I have been booked everyday as well as working nights.  I've only seen them in passing and am looking forward to spending the weekend with them! I haven't had time to do much this week, but my daughter's room redo is always in the back of my mind and when I saw this print on Poppytalk (yes, I am keeping up with my blog reading - I manage to grab quick reads during down time on set!) by Yellow Button Studio I knew I had to have it.

Hearted on Etsy

Another Wednesday evening spent aimlessly roaming around Etsy! I started with a credenza search then I always do a vintage industrial search - always on the search for the perfect wall storage solutions for my kids (the credenza is for me!) and I don't limit myself to traditional solutions of course! During my search I saw a vintage tool bag which I'm always fond of so I did a canvas bag search.  I search canvas bags often because honestly, I can never afford the leather ones I like! Even the upcycled ones on Etsy are out of my price range. That's okay there are plenty of great canvas bags out there and canvas seems more appropriate to spring and summer to me anyways! It didn't take me long to find a few I liked and then one that just blows the competition out of the water and that I now desperately want (the problem with etsy!).

The paperback by moop.  This bag is PERFECT - it's a carry tote, has a cross body strap and it's a clutch! I've been wanting a foldover envelope clutch, there's something so chic about a clutch, but the reality is I rarely use one. I'm much more of a cross-body strap person.  It's just more practical - it leaves one's hands free to both talk on the phone and carry coffee or more importantly hold my kids hands when crossing the street. Now I can have my cake and eat it too! I'm leaning towards the grey and am loving that it's waxed canvas.  IT feels a bit worn and distressed and definately ups the cool factor.

If I Were an It Girl

I don't need to be an It girl to own this jacket that I'm currently coveting.  I work at Ann Taylor and this jacket came in last week and it is sooo cool. It feels like it's made out of paper!

Vintage Finds : Three Potato Four

You never know what you're going to find when you start searching the interenet.  I think I ended up over at Three Potato Four while searching "home industrial storage" and while the piece that brought me to their site is no longer available, I'm loving their well editing selection of new and vintage goodies!

My top 3 picks :

the vintage scooters - they're perfect for photo shoots, but I'm afraid my kids may try to use them at breakneck speed which worries me a bit.

US Navy vintage wool blanket -  I am redoing (or should I just say doing - we moved two years ago and most rooms are still not finished!) my kids rooms and love this for my sons bed.

vintage cigarette pack holders - Yes, I unfortuanely still know people who smoke and these cases are cool. I bet they would hold a pack of playing cards or maybe even my son's pokeman card collection...

Catching up on my blog reading this weekend I saw this house over at both Lotta's and Emma's and one can easily understand why - such a welcoming warm house.  I love the wood floors, the white walls and furniture with wood accents and a hint of color here or there (awesome Eames chair and vintage globe) and how cool are those robots?

New Llamas' Valley
